Ville de Laval victim of a cyberattack

During a press conference called urgently, the mayor of Laval, Stéphane Boyer, specified that the computer intrusion was detected around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, when an email account belonging to a City employee has been associated with unusual behaviors.

Mr. Boyer believes that the account in question was hacked by the intruder(s), using a method commonly used to commit computer attacks.

In total, the digital attackers were able to steal around 600 megabytes of data. If the City says for the moment that it ignores the content of the stolen documents, it ensures that the information of the citizens is not at risk, any more than the municipal databases.

We believe we have prevented the worstaffirmed the mayor, who specified that the situation is changing rapidlyand should continue to evolve over the next few days.

A team of Microsoft specialists is working in particular with the municipal services to shed light on this affair and ensure the restarting of the computer systems.

For now, the Laval website remains accessible, but it is impossible to carry out financial transactions.

In a press release, the Municipality specifies that the activities of the Police Department, the Fire Safety Department, the Water Department and Laval Libraries were not interrupted at any time.

We do everything in our power to ensure the integrity of our systemsadded the mayor.
