Soliciting minor lawsuit against Oilers owner dropped

Daryl Katz and the young ballerina have all denied having a sexual relationship. Accusers now say they erred on the age of the alleged victim.

This about-face was recorded last week in Nevada District Court. We also took the opportunity to remove any reference to the age minor (17) at the time of dancer Sage Humphries as claimed by the lawsuit.

The meeting and the text exchanges initially alleged against Katz had occurred in 2016. All mention of rape, sex trafficking was also erased from the deposition made by a third party.

Katz and Humphries have denied having sex. The withdrawn allegations were filed in court by dance teacher Mitchell Taylor Button and his wife Dusty Button, herself a former Boston Ballet principal, as part of the couple’s defense of another sexual abuse launched by a group of seven young ballerinas in 2021.

Last July, the couple then described a three-way sexual exchange involving Humphries, herself the main accuser in the lawsuit against the Buttons. The latter had also alleged that Humphries had already participated in three other sexual relations with underage teenage girls and older men, including Daryl Katz.

According to the allegations in question, he then paid $75,000 in exchange for sexual favors. The lawsuit filing included alleged text exchanges where Katz and Humphries discussed payments of $25,000 and $50,000.

Simply unfair to Katz

In his motion to withdraw the complaint and the allegations made by the Button couple, their lawyer Marc Randazza pointed out that he was highly unusual for a party to request the withdrawal of a portion of its own argument.

The information we have calls into question their previous claims as to how old Humpries was at the time of the dealings with Katz. »

In light of these developments, the prosecution says it is simply unfair to charge Katz and two other men.

Still according to the lawyer, Humphries would have lied to the Button couple about his age, citing in evidence searches on Wikipedia, LexisNexis and Google.

Lawyers for Humphries did not respond to a request to comment on the new allegations.

For cinema

In the wake of the original lawsuit last July, Los Angeles attorney Robert Klieger, who represents Katz, told our CBC colleagues that the Oilers owner met twice with Humphries in the spring of 2016.

Katz had then advanced her a sum of $50,000 to support the production of a film based on the ballet which she was presenting at Silver Pictures, owned by Katz in Hollywood.

This project, a new version of an independent Australian film titled Tackling Romeo, is still in development according to a guide on the specialized site IMDb.

Klieger then provided a new birth date for Humphries that indicated she was 18, not 17 at the time of her meetings with Katz. Humphries’ lawyer later confirmed she was born in October 1997.

Marc Randazza, who represents the Buttons, also declined interview requests from CBC.

In a statement provided to the Sportsnet network, the lawyer personally apologizes for harm that the prosecution’s errors of fact may have caused to Mr. Katz and his family.

No one should repeat these allegations in any context noting that they have been withdrawn and repudiatedhe adds in his statement.
