Johnny Depp will direct a biopic about artist Amedeo Modigliani

The 59-year-old actor, who is currently in France for the filming of Jeanne du Barryrevealed on Monday that he is preparing to direct a biographical film on painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.

The screenplay is by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, who co-wrote the films The promise (The Pledge), by Sean Penn, and In the electric mist (In the Electric Mist), by Bertrand Tavernier.

The project was initiated by Al Pacino, who will produce the film alongside his longtime collaborator Barry Navidi. The two men brought three other plays to the big screen, including The Merchant of Venice (The Merchant of Venice), in 2004.
