Femicide in Montreal North: killed after denouncing her ex

A 42-year-old woman who had previously filed a domestic abuse complaint was found stabbed to death in her flat by her new boyfriend who was worried about her.

Upon entering the home of Viergemene Toussaint yesterday morning around 9:30 a.m., her new flame discovered the lifeless body of the lady of Haitian origin.

The man had gone to his apartment on boulevard Lacordaire since he had not heard from Madame Toussaint since the day before.

The body bore marks of violence. According to our information, the woman was stabbed in the stomach and neck. No weapon was reportedly found at the scene.

“Last night I heard someone screaming in a funny way. I thought, ‘Either he’s drunk, or he has mental health issues,’” a neighbor said.

“I didn’t hear a fight, anyone yelling or arguing. I heard voices, but I didn’t take care of that, I hear them every night, ”explained Nicole Imbeau, who lives a little further up the floor.

The Crown had opposed his release, but following an agreement between the parties, he was released on conditions, including that of not approaching Ms. Toussaint, or communicating with her, except in the presence of a lawyer regarding their immigration procedures.

The man is due back in court next November.
