Cocmelon, formerly known as Checkgate (2006–2013) and ABC Kid TV (2013–2018), is an American YouTube channel and streaming media show that has been acquired by the UK company Moonbug Entertainment and the American company Treasure. Maintained by the studio.
Cocomelon specializes in 3D animation videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and their own original children’s songs. As of July 2021, they are the most-viewed YouTube channel in the United States and the second-most-viewed channel in the world. They are the most subscribed children’s channel in the world and the second most subscribed channel in the world.
Videos of cocmelon include children, adults and animals interacting with each other in daily life. Song lyrics appear the same way on all displays at the bottom of the screen. In 2020, Treasure Studios added Cocomelon content to Netflix, Roku, and Hulu. The company also offers music through popular streaming services. YouTube content includes standalone music videos, compilations and livestreams.
Cocmelon was created on YouTube on 1 September 2006 to provide free education to viewers. Then known as Checkgate, the channel uploaded two versions of the alphabet song to YouTube on its first day. The channel uploaded its third video 9 months later, titled “Learning the ABC Alphabet – Letter “K” – Kangaroo Game. Most of the videos on the channel are taught the alphabet with a typical length of one to two minutes.

In 2013, the ABC Kid TV era introduced a new introduction and logo. The logo showed a TV with a ladybug on the top left corner. The channel began to re-master older videos, followed by the transition from alphabet videos to nursery rhymes and longer video lengths. Within a few years the channel introduced computer animation, with their first 3D character being used in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on April 8, 2016.
The video featured a 3D flying star guiding 2D characters through the sky. In late 2016, 3D animation video uploads became more frequent and longer, with some videos using motion capture technology. Animation and music production continued to modernize, and a recurring cast of characters was formed, with JJ, TomTom, Yoyo and many others.

In the summer of 2018, the company rebranded to Cocmelon, introducing a new intro and outro for all of its videos. They also added the current logo of a watermelon, which resembles a traditional box TV, while retaining a ladybug as part of the opening and closing scenes.
In April 2019, The Wall Street Journal estimated Cocmelon’s annual advertising revenue to be $120 million. At the end of 2020, Cocmelon added content in Spanish and Portuguese. In early 2021, they also added Mandarin Chinese, German and Arabic.
After nine years on YouTube, Cocomelon reached 1 million subscribers on May 16, 2016. Half a month later, the channel reached a total of one billion views. Over the next two years it continued to grow to ten million subscribers with approximately 400,000 subscribers per month, and the channel reached a total of seven billion views.
They began to grow rapidly with the release of the “Yeah Yes” bedtime song, a video in which Yoyo uses stuffed animals to get JJ ready for bed, which was released in July 2017. Became the most viewed video, currently with over 1 billion views.
Cocmelon had the second-largest YouTube channel subscription profit in 2019, increasing by over 36 million, ending the year at 67.4 million in channel subscriptions. In 2018, YouTube’s algorithms ranked Cocomelon’s video “Bath Song”. + More Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs” was recommended 650 times “out of 696,468 suggestions tracked by the Pew Research Center”, making it the most recommended video on YouTube.
As of September 2020, that video has garnered over 3.2 billion views on YouTube, making it the 19th most viewed video on the site. In addition, his second most popular video, ” Yes Yes Vegetables Song” has been viewed over 2.5 billion times, making it the 36th most viewed video on the site.
Between May and June 2019, Cocmelon received a total of 2.5 billion views, with an average daily audience of 83 million. By comparison, “the four major TV broadcast networks averaged only 13 million viewers per day during the TV season”.In July 2019, YouTube changed its algorithm after the Federal Trade Commission raised concerns over child safety.

Several children’s channels were affected, including Cocomelon, which “falled from a total of 575 million in the week before the change to 436 million in the week before, 307 million in the week after, and 282 million in the week after.” On December 12, 2020, Cocmelon became the third YouTube channel in the world to reach 100 million subscribers.
Cocomelon’s videos also gained popularity outside of YouTube; Netflix ranked Cocomelon as its third most popular show in September 2020. Cocomelon was ranked #1 on Reelgood’s list of Netflix shows for 2020, ahead of The Office and The Queen’s Gambit.

It was speculated that Cocmelon would overtake PewDiePie sometime in April–May 2021, becoming the second most subscribed YouTube channel. In response, PewDiePie posted on February 14, 2021. Ko released a dis track “Coco” targeted at Cocmelon. The video was removed from YouTube shortly after it was uploaded. YouTube removed the video, citing its harassment and cyberbullying policy. Two months later, on April 25, 2021, Cocomelon overtook PewDiePie as predicted. The song has been streamed on major streaming platforms.
cocomelan has participated in the Riyadh Season 2021 show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the companies Spacetoon Events and Moonbug Entertainment have teamed up with the Saudi General Entertainment Authority to bring cocomelan Town to the show for 3 months.
Cocomelon currently airs on Universal Kids, an American pay television channel owned by NBCUniversal Television and the streaming division of Comcast’s NBCUniversal, through NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. On March 29, 2021, cocomelon premiered on SAB TV in Pakistan.  On April 4, 2021, Cocomelon also premiered in the United Kingdom on Cartoonito.
Cocmelon’s website describes the company as having 20 employees. When The Wall Street Journal attempted to find out who produced the Cocmelon videos, they were unable to contact Treasure Studios, the owner of the channel. Wired magazine found a couple in Irvine, who There seemed to be some connection with Treasure Studios, but were unable to confirm that they owned the channel. In February 2020, Bloomberg Businessweek identified a couple from Orange County, California, as the owners of Treasure Studio and Cocomelon.
