Blainville: the BEI investigates a police pursuit that degenerated

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is investigating on a police intervention that allegedly left three injured late Sunday afternoon in Blainvillein the Lower Laurentians.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of boulevard Industriel and rue Rolland-Brière.

According to preliminary information, the police were checking license plates when they noticed that a vehicle that was driving had been reported stolen in Montreal.

“When the driver saw that the policewoman was turning around, the vehicle fled,” said Constable Sarah Tousignant, spokesperson for the Blainville Police Department.

The fugitive who had not seen “the concrete block that separates the industrial district and the residential district” could not avoid it and hit it head-on. As a result of the impact, the vehicle caught fire.

Four people were on board, police said. Two of the four occupants, including the driver, were seriously injured. One of them fled on foot before being finally located by the police a few minutes later.

The nature of their injuries is unknown.

Five BEI investigators were tasked with investigating the circumstances of the event. In accordance with the Regulation respecting the conduct of investigations of the Bureau of Independent Investigations, the parallel investigation was entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will also act as a support police service.
