Exam Format of AOIME
AOIME exam is a neat format test of 3 hours where the candidate has to solve 15 highly important mathematical problems. Each answer is an integer between 0 and 999 and carries 1 mark. If you cannot answer a problem or write the wrong answer, you will be awarded 0 marks.
You are allowed to take an eraser, black scratch paper, blank graph paper, compass and ruler. You’ll get zero access to electronic equipment, including calculators.
Within 3 hours, you must complete all the questions. If time runs out or you finish the test, AOPS will store all your answers. After analyzing them, you will get allowance to move to the next level of competition.
How to write answers in AOIME exams?
Knowing the right way to write answers in AOIME is a major determinant of your success. If your answers are correct but written incorrectly, you will not get any marks for that. So basically, the answers are integers that range from 0 to 999. You are required to enter a single number up to 3 digits in each of the blanks.
For example, if the correct answer to a question is 3, you would write: 3, 03, 003.

- The total exam is 3 hours long.
- You will get one mark for each question. However, you will get zero if the answer is wrong. There is no negative marking.
- You have to give the exam in a computerized environment.
- There is no restriction in taking pen, pencils, rulers, erasers, and papers for rough works.
- You cannot speak or discuss the answers with anybody in the examination hall.
- There will be 15 questions revolving around mathematical and analytical skills.
- You cannot carry any electronic gadgets like digital watches, smartphones, tabs, etc. in the examination hall.

Yes, students who score well in AOIME exam can participate in USOMO or United States Online Mathematical Olympiad and USOJMO or United States Online Junior Mathematical Olympiad.
In 2020, USOJMO was held on June 19-20. On the basis of AIME I and AOIME scores, the United States Mathematical Olympiad Committee and MAA determine the AMC cutoff marks.
