A Quebec woman with her children at the “freedom convoy” pleads guilty

A Gatineau mother pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge related to the “freedom convoy” after participating with her two young children in the monster rally in Ottawa last February.

Camille Drouin, 32, appeared alone at the Ottawa courthouse. “I plead guilty,” Ms. Drouin said on the charge of mischief for having participated seven months earlier in the illegal demonstration by truckers.

She refused to leave

“This convoy has created a lot of stress for Ottawa residents and is creating significant financial losses for businesses. The state of emergency was even declared by the mayor of the city”, then recalled the Crown lawyer.

More specifically, the charges against Camille Drouine date back to February 18, 2022. The mother of the family refused to leave the “freedom convoy” during this day, despite numerous requests from the authorities.

“The police asked him to leave. Ms. Drouin refused to move and remained in a seated position, which led to her arrest,” summed up the prosecutor.

No criminal record

La Gatineau, a mechanic by trade who lives in the Aylmer sector, finally got away with it without a criminal record.

“It is in your interest and that of society that you do not have a criminal record because it could put you in a situation where you could not find the job of your choice for example”, mentioned the judge, who grants him conditional discharge.

The latter added that the 30-year-old could not participate in several activities with her children aged two and five with a criminal record. Note that the judge also recalled that she had a “minor” role in the “freedom convoy”.

For these reasons, Camille Drouin gets away with 12 months of probation and 30 hours of community work.

“Great experience for kids”

the Log has also noted that Ms. Drouin has published on her Facebook page photos of her children, including one in a stroller, in the heart of the convoy of truck drivers last February.

“What a positive energy there, it’s wonderful. The people are great, it’s a great experience for the children, ”commented the mother of the family under the photo.

Remember that the “convoy of truckers” will cost the city of Ottawa nearly $37 million, according to their estimates made in June.

This demonstration had also paralyzed the city center of the capital for more than three weeks. Many residents of the capital complained of not sleeping during this period because of the incessant noise of car horns.
